Good evening Lions of District 4-C1.
We are very pleased to announce that the Lions Camp Fire Relief Center will be opening on Monday, November 26th. The center is located at Raleys Sky Park Plaza, 2485 Notre Dame Boulevard, Suite 210 in Chico, California (95926) and will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. seven days a week. It will most likely remain open for 7 to 8 weeks. We will be providing food, personal care items and cleanup supplies for individuals and families impacted by the fire.
.
Volunteers are needed to staff the center as Intake Team Members, Order Fillers and to provide assistance with unloading and stocking incoming shipments of supplies. We are attempting to schedule volunteers for three-hour shifts from 9:00 am to noon, noon to 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. However, we can be flexible in scheduling and volunteers are welcome to sign up for more than one shift if they wish.
.
From this point forward, we are asking that you contact Lion Linda Dunning at (530) 570-7888 or via e-mail to g-ldunning@comcast.net to provide her with the names and phone numbers of anyone wishing to sign up to work at the Relief Center. Linda is compiling a master list of volunteers which will be used for scheduling purposes. Linda or a member of the scheduling team will then contact volunteers on the list to get them scheduled.
.
Volunteers are also needed on Saturday, November 24th, to help set up the center and unload the first large truckload of supplies. If you are able to help, please contact Linda Dunning as soon as possible to let her know.
.
We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of care, concern and offers to help from Lions throughout the State. Our District Disaster Response Team continues to work closely with other agencies providing relief and support to fire victims to ensure that we are meeting their needs without unnecessary duplication of effort.
.
There are three primary ways that clubs and individuals can help.
- Those wishing to provide financial support for the relief effort can send checks made payable to “Lions District 4-C1 Disaster Fund” to District Secretary Melanie Hunter at 2734 Starlight Boulevard, Redding, CA 96001. Contributions in any amount are welcome. Sending contributions to the District Disaster account allows the Disaster Response Team the greatest flexibility to use funds as necessary to meet specific needs as they arise. Please do not send contributions to the Relief Center address as we have no mail delivery there.
- The Chico Breakfast Lions are accepting donations to purchase gift cards to give to displaced persons along with the items they are able to get from the Relief Center. Contributions for gift cards may be sent to Chico Breakfast Lions at P.O. Box 1094, Chico, CA 95927.
- Clubs and individuals wishing to assist with staffing the distribution center are asked to notify Linda Dunning as outlined above.
Further updates will be sent out as additional details become available. In the meantime, if you have any questions or need further information, please contact your Region Chair or District Secretary Melanie Hunter at (530) 921-3600 or mhunter@sdsengineering.com or myself, District Governor Sue Kerr at (530) 605-9036 or suekerr96003@yahoo.com.
Thank you to everyone who has provided any form of support for our fire victims thus far. We have a long way to go but we are already making a big difference.
District Governor Sue Kerr
