A Lesson in Asking
Written by Mary Stephenson
Being once again frustrated by my “stupid” computer. Fondly called that only when it doesn’t cooperate!
It produces this little blue circle that goes round and round with the mouse freezing. (Hey, that would have been a fun sentence 40 years ago, leaving people with “What?”)
So back to the issue. Up would pop the box with the options of “continue” or “stop plug-in”. It didn’t matter what I chose it wouldn’t fix the situation. It would just keep popping up.
Turning off the computer sometimes helped. Some of the time it would go along smoothly for a few days and then back to the same problem. Continue reading
Vision Screening at Juniper
Written by Mary Stephenson
Vision screening at Juniper on September 7th. We all looked pretty cool with our new Lion shirts. I for one, was much more comfortable and enjoyed the fit. I also believe it was less intimidating for the kids than the yellow vests. We just may blend in a little better with the blue shirts. More normal to what the kids would actually see in their world.
One of the classes we had were all 3 years old. That brought a lot of smiles. Some were brave and jumped on to the chair grinning from ear to ear. They were informed there was going to be a picture taken of their eyes. Hey, picture means you need to smile! Others were not so anxious about the whole process.

Surprise: Jim got his gavel back! It is super great to have him back and glad he had a great vacation.
Interesting note: Mike Ferrier was telling me that the “Camp out for the Cops Event” ending up being a huge success. They ended up well exceeding their goal in a day and a half. Pretty awesome!

Back to School Night
Written by Mary Stephenson
If you had told me a year ago that I would be going to school more in the next year than I have done over the previous 30, I would say “no way“.
But here we were again at Sycamore!
This time we were invited by Susanna Winstead, Sycamore School principal, to help serve chicken taco salad dinner on August 23rd. About 5 PM we arrived and remained until 6:30.
Students and parents came to have dinner and then meet with the teachers afterwards. Great way to get parents involved with their children’s school.
I can see a big difference with the way children are in this school compared to a number of other schools we have visited through the vision screening.
Having kids line up in a straight line without talking, walking to where they need to go and acting more mature than kids twice their age is pretty awesome.
What are the Lions doing with Cupcakes?

First day of school and how I ended up there!
Really not sure what we had unwittingly agreed to, but here we were with “bells on“.
My daughter was always thrilled about the first day of school, but I can’t remember ever feeling that way. All it meant was the end of summer which ended up interrupting my activities of swimming, fishing, sewing, biking and lots of other fun stuff. I was quite happy playing with my youngest brother and the neighborhood boys.
I didn’t even mind the activities of weeding the garden, raking grass, picking blackberries and the assorted picnics we got to go on. Much more fun than cracking the books.
