Riverfront Playhouse Potluck Buyout May 2024
Our annual event was held May 16, 2024.
“Fowl Play in French Gulch”
A great comedy that had us all laughing. No chance of falling asleep through this hilarious western.
An interactive play that had us cheering for the hero, booing for the villain and sighing for the sweet young thing. Apparently written capturing the theme of a melodrama and vaudeville shows.
The story takes place right here in Shasta County – French Gulch to be exact – and is chock full of fun and familiar figures, including the infamous Ruggles Brothers, the French Gulch Hotel, colorful cowboys, sultry saloon girls, and the return appearance of that elusive musical phenom: The Oak Bottom Boys!
I forgot to pick up a program to help elaborate on the play… but if you were there, I don’t need to add any information. Although I thought about how much exercise the cast got running. You had to be in good shape to take on one of the roles.
The play had a huge cast and was the best I have seen for little theater Kudos to the actors, stage hands, and director, with everyone working together it was a memorable success.
Potluck
Great food. Such a huge variety to choose from, couldn’t possibly try it all. But what I did have was delicious.
How nice of the band coming into the lounge and giving us a nice little concert at 7 PM. That was very unexpected. A super surprise. A prelude to what we would soon be in the audience watching.
Redding Breakfast Lions Club and Redding’s MeetUp Theater Group made the Buyout Potluck a smashing success again this year.
Thank you for the review. My wife Kay was the Stage Manager for this very play and Directors Bill and Lisa COLLINS. Lisa COLLINS filled in as Lotty, the boxy housekeeper!
Lots of fun! Enjoyed seeing everyone and socializing too!
Thank you for working on this buyout Charlie and Dawn Folis. You have done good, Cowboy!
Hey – Thx to all who supported this effort! The Play was just plain fun, it was great to laugh over such simple silliness like a kid. The food was good, but the dessert stole the show from my perspective. It’s great that this event survived Covid and is coming back stronger each year. Knowing my wife, the event will continue to improve. Special thanks to the ‘Redding Ramblers Theater goers’ who came out in support with force. The community always benefits when we all pull together! *** Lion Charlie
