2020 Reflection

Written by Mary Stephenson 9-21-2020

This year has been an ultimate test.

We all have had to adjust our lives in serious ways. Never would have we thought a year ago that something like this could happen.

The last time I have seen any Lion’s was March 14th at the wonderful BBQ. It was a last great event to remember, thank you Doyle and Brenda.

Six months have past.

Since that time Good News Priceless Vision, All-Star Basketball Games, Kid’s Expo, Initiation Party, and Turtle Bay Run have all been canceled. Other events we look forward to each year are probably going to be dismissed, the Bunco Party, Santa Shop for Sycamore, and our Christmas Party.

Will any of these events even be possible next year?

I wonder when things will become normal again. Can’t visit my relatives in Canada due to the border closure and for their own protection, I am not welcome.

Miss all my Lion friends and the great times we had together. One day we will be able to sit and talk over what we have all been doing.

I thank those that have shared some funny stuff over emails, we all need some laughs.

Masks have become the new fashion trend and I do admire the 3 and 4 years olds who take it all in stride. Still bouncing and running around as if it is normal.

So this post is to reach out to say hello, and if you have something to add or even a joke, please reply in the comments below.

Okay what I thought was workable on this website has once again surprised me and Lion George left a comment and it showed up on my side, but will not show up on the website as much as I have tried to make it cooperate… UGH So unless they fix these issues with WordPress, I will either have to learn how to use their new editor or hope that someone figures this out. It did say there is one comment… but it is not showing up. So never to be defeated I will copy and paste them in this post. All comments on all posts have vanished on the site you see, but they are still here behind the scene for me to see.

  • Good Morning Mary,
Thank you for an update on how you are doing and a reflection of the world as we see it today. Hopefully this virus will pass soon and we will be back to normal soon. I have been approached by some fellow Lion’s about having our weekly meetings back again. By chance, I saw Enterprise Lion’s at their weekly meeting this last Friday at the same restaurant we meet at. So what I’m proposing is that we try meeting once again starting this Thursday. Doors open at 6:30 AM. Those that don’t feel comfortable with that shouldn’t attend yet. But, there are those that would like to try it. So unless someone has some really strong reasons not to have our weekly meetings how about if we try starting up again this Thursday? I would like to thank everyone for helping with this situation we find ourselves in. Lion George

  • We did have another, successful, 2020 Lions Peace Poster contest with 32 students of the Redding School of the Arts. assigned to the Redding Breakfast Lions Club (The Enterprise & Host Lions also participated) No actual award meeting was held at the school as in the past, but we had a ZOOM meeting with the board of directors, the great teacher, MS Brown and a few students. Everyone is looking forward to 2021 for another contest.
I have been in touch with the City of Redding regarding the 21st Annual Lions Turtle Bay, planned for Sunday, October 3… I am supposed to contact the Parks and Recreation folks after Monday, January 18 and hopefully reserve the necessary dates. I already had a few contacts with our past sponsors…
I wish all my fellow Lions a Happy, more successful, New Year.

    • Good news Egon,
It has been a tough year for any club activities and a test for survival of our purpose. With the race being an outdoor activity, hope that it can be done. It is sad most of all the events that were planned for 2020 had to be canceled. I know one day life will return to normal, although it might look a little different in the future, making us all a little more humble of how something we can’t see, be so tragic.
Yes, we do hope for a better year in 2021.
      Mary
