To my fellow Redding Breakfast Club Lions,

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of you for making the 2019 Letters to Santa project an amazing success.  With your help, our club was responsible for submitting 3,670 letters to Macy’s, which equates to $7,340 we as a club raised for Make A Wish!  This is by far the largest amount raised by a north state group.  We once again doubled our efforts from the previous year!

I remember my first year serving on our Board of Directors.  I suggested a $500 donation to Make A Wish since my first speaker was a representative from the group. I was disappointed but understood, when I was told we support local needs and not those of a national organization.

Little did I know, but here we are as a club, five years later, being responsible for donating close to $12,000 to the Make A Wish foundation! This doesn’t count our club’s volunteer efforts to provide security every March during their annual Silent Auction fundraiser held at the mall.

My deepest appreciation goes out to all of our club members and their extended friends and families, Lion Melanie Hunter from the Anderson club/ Sharrah Dunlap Sawyer/ Make A Wish, Sycamore School, Hilltop Estates, Oakmont, Country Waffles, Lion Lupe Arness and her River Commons group, Kelly Moore Paint, Lion Brenda Fry with Spiropictures and Shasta Estates for their combined efforts in making this generous donation to such a worthy cause.

You’ve proven once again our club truly does make a difference in the Redding community in so many ways and I’m proud to be a member.

Respectfully,

Jim Reimer

REDDING BREAKFAST LIONS CLUB POSTS ANOTHER BANNER YEAR FOR MAKE A WISH DONATIONS

I would like to thank our club members who diligently wrote their letters to Santa Claus again this year to raise money for this great cause.  This is our fourth year participating in the program.  This year the club turned in over 750 letters compared to the 150 we wrote the first year.  We did this in a span of only three weeks!  We’ll get an earlier start for 2018 and I pose a challenge of 1,500 letters as our goal.

Lion Melanie Hunter of the Anderson Lions Club spearheads the letter writing campaign here locally and we thank her for her supplies, club visits and encouragement. She is a volunteer with our local Make A Wish program. Our club provides security during their Silent Auction event held at the Redding Mall every March.  We’re always glad to help watch the tables of the many donated items on display.

I would like to give a special thanks to Lions Lupe Arness, Andy Zopolos and Stan Lundahl for putting in extra letters to our club efforts.

Macy’s donates $1 per letter, up to one million dollars to the program.  Our club is the second largest contributor north of Sacramento.  Sequoia School here in Redding is the largest.  Their entire student participates in the fundraiser.  Needless-to-say, Redding supports Make A Wish and the Redding Breakfast Lions Club is proud to do our part!
