Lions on Race Day

October starts off with a bang; our Annual Turtle Bay Race. This year the weather blessed the day with sunshine, making it a wonderful day for the runners and volunteers. I believe there were 216 signed up to run and 193 that completed the race. Good fundraiser for the year. Great planning by Egon Harrasser and Ole Jensen. Plans are already underway for next year.

October 10th, Norm Overbay arranged another Riverfront Playhouse Potluck for us to enjoy. Great acting by the cast of Frankenstein. Fun night with lots of good conversations and yummy food. My vote was for the carrot cake. Don’t know who made it but have to confess I went back for seconds. Well… it was vegetable… right? So it must be healthy. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Jim Reimer, Gary, and I all went to the PTA meeting on the 14th. Jim was there to ask Sycamore School to help us with our Macy’s Make a Wish writing challenge. They embraced the opportunity to help us out, since we have helped the school. Taking this challenge as also a learning experience of writing letters and teaching the children about the Make a Wish program.

At the PTA meeting I also continued the previous conversation we have had on the Santa Shop. Clarifying issues that were addressed before and how we plan on volunteering. The schedule will be December 9th to 13th from 9 AM to 2 PM. I will split the shift schedule to 9 – 11:30 and 11:30 – 2:00 PM. This will give volunteers an opportunity to either stay a whole day or just be there half a day. Will be going back to the November 4th PTA meeting to see how they have planned the class schedule. Also told them, if they can plan the classes so that they are done earlier, we will clean up the room for those hours that are promised to them.

Ava provided a full photo coverage of the race and you can find them over on this page.

    • No computer for 4 days and no power for 3 days, I think I am back to normal. It is nice you can find out what the rest of us are doing. Get well soon Janet.
