We Serve

Speakers, Vision, and More

Written by Mary Stephenson 2-16-2020

Been a lapse of time since my last post. Although I have done a number of emails to keep everyone up on what is happening.

Last meeting we had the Lion’s Annual Speaker Contest for our club. Once a year we are on our best behavior during a meeting.

Always inspired by the young folks that take part in the annual speaker contest. Never would have braved even the front of the classroom at their age, unless forced to do so. Sure the payoff is the cash awards. But it gives us all hope for those that will take our place in the community someday.

Speaker #1 was Sophie McKinnon, #2 was Nikolai Orloff, #3 was Gwyneth Simard, sure glad I got them to write their names down otherwise I would have botched the job of spelling.

Nikolai Orloff won. I was impressed with his speech and would be surprised if he isn’t at the District Convention. We had one of our winners a couple of years go on to win at the District level and I think he is that good to also win. Come to the convention and show support for our winner. It will take place on April 18th in the afternoon.

Speaker Contest Dates:

    • Club Contest by Monday, February 24, 2020

    • Zone Contest by Monday, March 16, 2020

    • Region Contest by Monday, April 6, 2020

    • District Contest by Monday, May 4, 2020

    • Area Contest by Monday, May 25, 2020

    • State Final Contest on Saturday, June 6, 2020

Coming up is the vision screening at the Good News Rescue Mission on March 14th.

Same day is the 1st Annual Lion’s BBQ. Nice to have a new event where we can just enjoy without all the prep work everyone has had to do in the past.

March 29th is the 25th Annual Basketball Games.

Not only will March be busy, but with our new event coming the end of May I think we will never be able to complain about boredom.
