We Serve

Kindness Unite and The Raging Wolf

April 13, 2022

Lions Ava & Allan 2022 Convention Food Fair

The Lion’s Annual District 4C-1 Convention seems to not be a favorite of not only Redding Breakfast Lions Club, but many others. Sad but true.

With it being in our neck of the woods, it’s a missed opportunity for gathering of like minds. We are of like minds, right? I mean, we all care about our community and our pet projects for the Shasta County region.

But I get it. Many feel it’s boring, a waste of time, and NO FUN!

True, many parts are boring and appear to be a waste of time.

FUN… yes! Maybe even detrimental to the waistline.

We had food; we had drinks; we had laughter. That was just Friday night at the Food Fair. Want to thank Lion Ava and Lion Allan for jumping in, bringing food to represent our Redding Breakfast Lion’s Club. Nice job.

Repeat for Saturday night. With food, drinks, and great conversations with other Lions, at The Saloon, honoring the “First Timers”.

(Perks are the price… where else can you get free food and drinks?)

Saturday there were heart felt speeches. Laughter and a few tears.

The laughter and tears were also part of the student speaker contest.

The subject was: “How Can Kindness Reunite Our Country?”

Chico Breakfast Lions contestant was the Winner of the District 4-C1 Student Speakers Contest, Summer Sun. A junior from Chico High School. She will advance to the Area level on May 7th in Roseville.

Okay, Summer Sun had me with the “raging wolf”. She took us on a journey of her transformation of how she perceived her world through COVID and how kindness happened to her when she was to believe it wouldn’t be. Couldn’t help but tear up when she told her story.

A young girl that could grip your attention and help others feel differently about life. This is our youth and with them we have mounted hope for such terrific young people to enter adulthood and lead this country.

So, we are going to have a dynamic, enthusiastic Governor in Lion Amanda “Mandi” Daniels. She has so much energy. We are in for a wild ride with her at the helm. Lion Elisa Coyle will be First District Governor. Both are young and ambitious.

Lion Mandi’s goal is “Fun and Service”. With much input from members, she addressed the biggest issues at club levels.

The following were her goals:

-Establish communication with clubs from the District. The Mane Lion as a communication between clubs. A team effort from the clubs and to their members.

-Embracing our youth. As in Leo Clubs. Reaching out to the youth in our communities. Find out what they want to do. By addressing their interests, they will get on board with help in our club projects as well.

-Strengthen memberships and retention of the members we already have. Find out why our missing members are not coming to the meetings and help meet their needs. Can we do something for them? Do they need help? Or what we might do to improve the club to meet their needs?

-Lion Mandi’s goal for the district is to increase membership to 1000 by the end of her term.

Hopes that COVID will not continue to set us back in our interactions within the community. Time to kick it to the curb and move forward with Lion projects, yet stay safe and cautious.
