April 2024 Notes

#1 Lion Charlie requested we take the left over packets of goodies from the Basketball game to Sycamore School.
Arrived at the awkward time of dodging the school homeward bound kids. With school buses, parents in cars, and numerous kids lined up waiting for their transportation rescues from their day of learning.
Found a parking spot and hoped by the time we left the office it would be thinned out, and it was.
2024 Student Speaker Contest
This year is the 87th annual Student Speakers Contest.
February 15, 2024 was our annual Student Speaker Contest.
The theme this year was: “For a Better World What Would You Change?”
Collectively I feel that this year’s speakers did a really super great job. All U-Prep students.

We were honored today with one big black German Shepherd dog, named Gunner. Accompanied by his handler and 4 other officers.
You can read about these humble heroes of Redding’s K-9 Police Department on their Facebook page.
Christmas Party 2023
December 9, 2023
Just got back from a fantastic feast. (No kidding, it was really good!) Biscuits and gravy, perfectly cooked sausages, yummy seasoned fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc. Once the Christmas season is over and all the tree decorations are put away, and the chocolates are all gone, maybe we can get back to serious healthy behaviors.
I applaud Lion John, Lion Melanie, and all the other Lions (and spouses) that made this event a terrific success. Nice cozy little gathering, enjoyed many laughs and great conversations. A game to test our Christmas knowledge, which most of us did poorly, even if the bell curve was used we failed. Singing: we did a little better. The piano player did a great job of entertaining us as we relished in the delightful brunch.
Another Empty Chair
On November 30th Lion Arch Pugh announced this would be his lasting meeting. He had officially retired and was moving the following Thursday.
We shall miss Lion Arch. And our morning singing is going to severely suffer without his leadership. It was suggested he record his voice so we would somehow be able to keep in tune.
Maybe now is the time to search for someone that can lead us in singing. Funny; when we happen to visit other clubs or even going to the convention, they pick different songs. Probably because they have singers in the group. But I don’t think I want to give up the laughter we all enjoy for botching the song. Although, when I had my B-Day a few weeks ago and volunteered to throw in an extra dollar for a song, everyone burst into a hardy Happy Birthday. Now maybe if we could just change it into Happy Birthday to America, we could nail it every time!
