Children and Art

Involving children in such projects as the Peace Poster Contest helps bring purposes together. Children benefit by the challenge of competing. The Lions get acknowledged in the hopes it will bring a new awareness of what we do and may bring an interest of others joining.
The official reception for the Peace Poster Contest was held on Friday, May 20 from 5 – 7pm. Since we are new to the area and not sure how the attendance was in other years, it seemed a shame that more had not showed up. But trying to make sense of it I realized the big competition was the Redding Rodeo. Probably not the best time to have a reception!
We were able to meet some of the contestants and their parents.
It was nice to be able to see the artwork up close. The fine detail in some of the posters was quite amazing with a lot of thought into portraying the “Share Peace” theme.
With 120 students competing and only 18 chosen it was a huge accomplishment to have made it to the walls of Redding City Hall.
The brochure says the showing is from May 3rd to September 5th, 2016.
This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.
The theme of the 2016-17 Peace Poster Contest is “A Celebration of Peace.” Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, are eligible to participate.
Mary,
Nice thing to put on the page. I have been busy with work and unable to attend meetings and getting to the reception was not even on my radar. Great that you made it and enjoyed it. I’ll look forward to getting a glimpse of the kids work as I’m at city hall from time to time.

Hi Stan
The posters looked good in the black frames. It definitely showed the talent of the children. Some had done such fine details that I am sure required many hours to accomplish.

Mary & Gary:
Thanks for showing up o behalf of the club. I had out or town guests for a golf tournament and was unable to attend.
Hi Arch
We enjoyed the showing and looked around at the other artwork hanging in the building. This was our first time to the city hall so it was also an experience for us.

I also was unable to make the event. It was fun assisting with hanging the posters. The students truly have an abundance of talent. We’re fortunate that we’re able to partner with the Redding School of the Arts and our fellow clubs. Kudos to you both for attending and representing our club.
Hi Kurt
It was one of those newbie adventures for us. The new kids are still learning and discovering Shasta County. Roger and Egon were also there.
