Daughters of the American Revolution
Written by Lion Norm Overbay
At my Redding Breakfast Lions Charity, Inc. our speaker was Kate Tully – Daughters of the American Revolution. She shared her lineage back to the Revolutionary War and the crossing of the Delaware by General George Washington.
She visited the site and was in awe of the brave 5000 American citizenry that fought the British. Each rifle badge signifying a lineage name connection to the Revolutionary War. Lion Melanie Hunter, Kate Tully and me. Kate shared she just turned 80 years old.
Note from the Daughters of the American Revolution:
Our TEAMS meeting introduced a representative from the Whole Health Resources Organization. This group partnered with the VA in San Francisco after a grant was obtained. This group and the interactive website they developed is a very comprehensive site that is available to any Veteran. It contains sections of interest/need and one can click on the area closest to them to find an amazing array of services for the Veteran. These services are all free: some are web based, app based, or via phone for the convenience of the Veteran. Redding and Chico were shown on the PPT presentation as viable links, but I have not been able to access. The group has been informed and I continue to follow up. Just look around this site https://wholehealth.vetsreturnhome.com to familiarize yourselves with the offerings. This organization is not 508 compliant yet but the web developer is working on it.
In other news it was announced that National Salute Week is Feb. 13-17,2023 and will be celebrated at all VA hospitals, clinics, Veterans Homes around the country. If you would like to think of a project that your chapter could participate in, I highly encourage that. If an activity is chosen, please let me know so that I can inform the VA Chief for Northern California.
Mr. Hinson, the Admin. Director for VANCHCS, gave us a presentation about the current and upcoming building projects around our state. Many new buildings with a more specialized offering (ie Sleep Disorders, chronic dialysis) will be a better situation for each Veteran’s needs. Some will come online in 2023 while others have a completion date of 2024.
Interesting fact- Women’s Veterans Groups are now the fastest growing population for Veterans Affairs. The numbers went up 14% in 2022. More specialized services are being looked into for this population.
If you have a recurring project/activity that your chapter does for local Veterans, please keep me informed and I will give you assistance in any way I am able. Thanks for the work you do for our women and men that served our country.
