Dave Simpson
Born on a mountain top in Tennessee ….killed a bear when I was only three…Davey…Davey Simpson king of the wild frontier. Moved to Eureka after killing the bear on February 12, 1943.
Have a sister 2 years younger and a brother 9 years younger.Attended local schools and graduated from Eureka High in 1961.
Was allowed into Humboldt State University even though the tree huggers were upset about me killing a bear at the age of three. First two years at Humboldt were not pretty….too much partying and playing pool between classes. Had a C- average after two semesters but managed to get it up to a C+ after the next two semesters, mainly because all my partying buddies flunked out the first year. Then managed to fall in love(I thought)with one of my sister’s girlfriends who was a Jehova’s Witness.
She decided the relationship wasn’t going to work and moved to San Francisco. So, what did I do? I dropped out of college, gathered up two of my buddies and moved to San Fran also. Needless to say the grass “real” green in terms of girls to hang out with so I fell out of love.
Went to Data Processing school in San Fran, graduated and began working at British Motor Cars.Got drafted two years later but failed the physical…something about flat feet and leaving a trail of duck feet around the pool.
Moved back to Eureka went to work at the Post Office and enrolled at Humboldt State.Majored in Business and graduated in 1969 with 3.5 GPA(working 12 hour days at the P.O. and carrying a 16 to 19 unit load per quarter left me with little time but to study).
Have a step son from my first marriage…raised him from the age of 3.
Went to work in the Computing Department at Humboldt State on April 1, 1970.
Divorced in 1981 and met the love of my life at Humboldt. After 15 months of dating we tied the knot. We have two beautiful daughters Carlie 34 and Breanne 32.
After 32 years and working my way up to Associate Director of Information Technology I retired from Humboldt on December 31, 2002.
Kids graduated not too long after and we decided we had had enough fog and moved to Cottonwood.
Spent about 6 years there and decided we had enough country living (no bears) so we moved into town in 2009 and are very happy with “city” life.
