Ken Hess’ Obituary

Below is the bio Ken wrote back in August 2016

I am a native Californian.  I moved to Redding in 1976. In 2004 I retired and then joined Redding Breakfast Lions Club. I was very active until the last few years due to health issues.

When I retired I was an instructor of a building trades class for high school and adults.

I have a designated credential for high school and adults in building trades and automotive repair. I have another for police science for California junior colleges. I am a “B” general contractor for California.

Currently married to Sue for 54 yrs.  We have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren.

The Lion’s club has been very rewarding to me for what we do in the Redding area.

  • Shall miss Ken he was a sweet man. Remembering his easy going nature no matter how many times he had to deal with the DMV.

  • Ken was one of my favorite Lions….never complained about his ailments, always a smile on his face. He built a planter shelf out of barn wood and donated it to one of our Christmas parties. Sharon and i won it and it is still standing in the back yard amongst our flowers. A good guy gone too early.

I always enjoyed seeing Ken at our meetings, and Sue at the functions. They both always brought a smile and a sense of humor. Ken was a very talented guy, and I always liked to hear his stories of working on old Jaguars, Ferrari’s and any other exotic toys that were brought in for him to fix. He was a true handyman when it came to fixing it or building it!
Ken was a great member of the club and will be missed!
