We Serve

Looking Forward

Written by:  Mary Stephenson

Attended the board meeting yesterday (7-12-2016).

As my usual process with trying to seek solutions, I sleep for a few hours and then awake with a busy mind.  I probably should just get up and start writing stuff down.  Nope, it just plays around with my mind until I have it all memorized!

The one thought that came up was the word “stagnant”.  Yes, I think that summed up what was brooding in the vision of things that need to change.

Many thoughts at the meeting were brought up and valid reasons behind all of them.

Many of the long time members have built this club and have put in numerous working hours.  To them I applaud.  Coming to the meeting every Thursday morning to join everyone else for breakfast and lots of laughter keeps everyone full of life.  They have earned the right to do so.  I am truly grateful for all that they have done.

Some are burned out with the commitment of projects that are behind the scenes highly demanding.

I do believe all projects should be pursued because someone wants to do it.  When it becomes a chore it is no longer rewarding.

More hands make easier work for all.  We need new people with new ideas and new energy.

Adopting Sycamore School is a project that can be really rewarding to get behind.  Once the classroom is finished, it will mean us getting involved in a different way.

The wheels are churning with possible ideas and brain-storming about them should be productive.  As once was said “work smarter, not harder”.

  • Mary,
A great group of people “The Redding Breakfast Lions” is. A very nice piece and a good takeaway from the board meeting.

    Thanks

    • Hi Stan
Yes I think the board meeting was very productive. We will have to put our thinking caps on and come up with some great ideas. I know there are many out there.

  • Mary: Well said. Our problem is that most of us do not mingle in an area that has new people to meet and possibly interest in Lions. We have aged ourselves out of that place. I am not sure what venue we use to meet the new young people. I am sorry to be so negative but I am at a loss.

    • Hi Arch
Well you are probably correct…but we are new to the area and everyone is new to us. We have ideas and hopefully with a fresh outlook we can see a way to make things happen. We are on the internet and searching for avenues of how to do things differently. That is where the work smarter comes into play.

  • My first board meeting as president and the key we’d is “stagnant?” Rowdy has some work to do!

    • Hey, not you! Thoughts of mine. It is in the mind of what I see as a revelation. Weird things happen in the middle of the night thoughts. Some of my best posts from my past website came in the wee hours of the morning. It is just a word of understanding. Today I found some of the information I had been searching for.
