Remembering Lion Egon Harrasser
June 24, 2022
Another sad day for Redding Breakfast Lions Club.
Lion Egon was so influential in many projects for the Lions and within the community. I know his pet project was the Turtle Bay Run. His love for running was apparent. Winning many awards in his division. His devotion to making things happen to create the Turtle Bay race each year was outstanding.
I didn’t know Egon for any great length of time, but have been around to hear many stories. He did show me some pictures once of him in his Easter Bunny costume.
Been to the school as he talked about the history of the colonies. Went on some vision testing and was graced with many experiences of his life. He lived a life full of every emotion, some terrifying, some exciting, but all that made him someone extraordinarily special.
Not too many months ago Egon told us about his experience from his homeland and how he got to here. A short time after that he handed me his bio, with a few extra lines to complete what he told us.
This was a shortened version of what he had proclaimed he would need to hand me about 4 years ago. You can read his bio (here), I have also added the email comments from the last few days.
Note:
Since this website was started I know that we have lost a few members and until recently was unsure how to handle the changes. So, moving them from member status to the bottom under “Members Remembered” seemed the best approach. If anyone wants to add a comment under the members bio page, just email me.
Last meeting:
We had a speaker from the Shasta Historical Society. He gave us a very interesting history of how Redding came to be. Mentioning the Gold Rush and the railroad. Probably good for all of us that the railroad decided to go through Sacramento. I’m not a history buff, but found me wondering about the buried treasure.
No, I’m not going out in search of it. BUT… I have this giant boulder by my big oak tree. It doesn’t really belong with all the other rocks on the property. You never know… I guess unless someone wants to move the monster, we will never know what lies beneath.
