Sycamore Fair 2018

Once again we set up shop with our snack bar, complete with the snazzy new banner. A few more items on the menu this year. The variety was a great marketing plan… thanks Ron and Janet.
Hot dogs, popcorn, ice-cream, candy bars, and drinks. Actually Janet had me going when she ran off an extensive list of all the things we were selling. I was getting impressed but we had a good laugh.
Ron first started with a detailed instruction of how to make popcorn. I doubt that a manual could ever end in good results with the antique machine. Definitely a high tech ordeal that I decided to stay away from.
At the beginning of the selling, the Lions were our best customers.
There were some of the customers who told us to keep the change, as the Lions do a lot for the school and they appreciate it. Nice.
Lots of painted faces and happy kids. They rushed over to the area when they called for kids to come and play musical chairs. Some had animal balloons. Not sure what other activities they were doing but they seemed to enjoy the day. It is a nice way for the kids to have a carnival for their age level and the freedom where they can be safe to roam around with limited parental supervision.
The weather was marvelous. At the first of the week I was concerned of how hot it might be, but miracles happen. Pleasant temperature and a nice breeze.
Had a nice conversation with Catherine Low of the PTA. We talked about the Santa Shop and the involvement of the Lions for the end of the year. Shorter hours and some of the planning we had discussed back in the earlier part of the year. Told her about what we were working on in contributions. Keep saving your bags!
Pleased that so many Lions showed up for the event. The work load was easier than the Veterans event last year, so we had more time to socialize.
When we get together for an event, it should never feel like a job. It should be fun. I had a good time… hope everyone else did!
The whole gang: Ron, Janet, Rowdy, Jim W., Andy, Doyle, Gary, and me.
