Yippee! My first school dance.

Yep, I lived a pretty sheltered life.

I remember in high school talking with my girl friend about going to a dance with her. Should have just spent the night at her house on the day of the dance and borrowed one of her dresses. Couldn’t figure on how to get out of the house with my own party dress. Ah, opportunities lost.

As long as I was out with my brother, I was allowed to go square dancing… but of course not quite the same, although there were quite a few teenagers that attended.

February 16, 2018 I experienced my very first school dance!

But alas, not a participant. Don’t think serving food is a real participant of the dance!

At 4 PM Jim, Judy, Gary and I all showed up to decorate the cafeteria/dance hall. Apprehensive as to how this was going to happen and if any of us had any idea of what we were doing. But with what we had to work with I think it ended up looking pretty good. I wonder if it really even mattered as the lights were off during the dance.

There were some cute Valentine lights above the food bar, nice touch Michele.

At 6 PM the dance started. Ron, Janet, Gary and I were in charge of the sales of the food bar/novelty items.

The things that glowed in the dark were a big hit. The kids with lights on their shoes were fun to watch. They jumped and bounced around the floor to some lively music. High energy in the room and everyone seemed to be having a super good time.

Didn’t know what to expect for music but was pleasantly surprised on the choice. It was what the youngsters could relate to and upbeat enough that they enjoyed participating. Many doing their own free-style or holding hands in a group making circles. Lots of fun to watch between the sales. Even the younger siblings were doing twirls close to where their parents were seated.

Many of the kids came up and thanked us for being there, which makes what we do for Sycamore that more meaningful.

I am sure once you could “wind them down” from the evening, they slept good that night!
