We Serve

Weaverville Road Trip 5-30-2023

Written by Mary Stephenson

Yay, a “road trip”…

Lions John, Gary, and myself all met at Lion Norm’s place at 4 PM to head out to join the Weaverville Lions for their evening meeting. Was fun for us, as we were chauffeured by Norm to the event.

Met a few familiar faces, some of which were at the convention in April. They had a full house. Even had to make it a little larger by bringing in a couple of extra tables… due in part to the 4 of us showing up. Black tablecloths with black napkins were on the tables… fancy!

We were welcomed and had lots of laughs. Was refreshing to have a club that was not all business. Lots of poking fun at each other. Maybe their morning meetings are more serious. The once a month evening meeting was because many of the younger folks work and they found it too difficult to make a morning meeting. I suppose so when you think of how early teachers have to be at work each morning. And trying to hustle school age children out the door in the morning can be a task.

They talked about their big 4th of July celebration, a big fund raiser for them. Sounds like they have lots of activities for the public to enjoy. Each person gave their account of what projects they enjoyed doing in their club. As simple as some of the answers, I think it speaks volumes of how every little piece and every little contribution each person makes can escalate into a major cooperative event being able to take place.

They inducted a new member while we were there. A little more serious than our induction ceremony. That shouldn’t surprise anyone!

Learning from other clubs can be informative as to what works for them. Maybe small town clubs have an advantage, as lots of people know each other. They shop in the same stores and very likely meet someone they know every time they are out in their community.

Looking forward to the next visitation.

  • Nice coverage of the Weaverville Lions Club visitation. Would be nice to have the picture of all of the club and us.
    Great job Mary!

    • I guess we should have jumped on that opportunity for them to take a photo for us. I looked on their Facebook page yesterday to see if they had posted it… but they hadn’t. Maybe I will keep an eye out for it to surface. It was a fun outing.
