Teaming Up With Sycamore School

Teaming up with Syscamore School

Olivia and her Lion’s crew

Monday morning brought us all together to Sycamore School.  Accompanied by our various painting supplies we were ready to work.

After Olivia LaField’s visit to our weekly meeting last week and the wonderful project she is taking on, we got on board to pitch in.

It all comes back to the better we raise children to be happy and that they learn they can make something of themselves, society wins.

It is easy to forget little children, out of sight and out of mind.  Unfortunately some of them grow up to be angry disconnected adults.  As much as we might say it is not our problem, the truth is it can become our problem.

Olivia is building a “PAL Zone” room.  It will be a safe room for traumatized children.  A place where they can feel safe and calm down.

Olivia is teaching the “Skills of Independence” to all the students.  It is very exciting to see the results.  After being told what was expected of the children I could see that they were learning the lessons with flying colors.

During the “Last Day of School” and we were serving the kids lunch, there was some very well mannered children.  With smiles, please and thank yous.  It was very refreshing!

For the participation:  we are not done.  Back to painting on Thursday.

  • Nice report. Good to know what the Redding Breakfast Lions have been up to.

What color are you painting the room?

    Stan

    • Hi Stan
The color we painted today was white. Needs a second coat. The other part is going to be some shade of yellow/gold? The color she had was not the shade she desired, so it will be surprise for us. We had a great time and the day just whizzed by. Before we knew it was 12:30.

  • Great effort.
Thanks to all that attended the work party.

    • Hi Ron
This is a good worthy cause to get behind.
I can’t imagine Olivia having to do all of it by herself.
Next post I plan on putting up the article on trauma, it will give an insight on why this room is so important.
